Makeup Monday: Summer 2014 Nail Trends

For this week's Makeup Monday, I wanted to feature some of the Summer Nail Trends I've come across. I don't often paint my nails, usually because I get busy and it becomes the last thing on my list, but never because I don't actually want to paint them lol. I'm hoping that this summer I can have more days with nail polish on my nails then days sans polish. So here are some of the trends I found.

1. Dark Nails

Usually darker nail polish colors are reserved for the colder winter/fall months, but it seems this summer wants dark nails too. I personally love this trend as I usually go for the darker polish colors. Also, I love the way the dark colors look against light clothing, kind of edgy. Loving navies the most.

2. White Nails

On the other side of the spectrum, and repeating last week's

Wednesday post

, white nails are also very hot this summer. I think this is the black nail of summer, chic yet simple.

3. Neon Nails

It seems summer is having it's fun with color, as the two previous trends have dealt with the dark and white trend. Neon nails are also trending this summer and this is appropriate since summer is usually when people wear the brightest colors. I am excited to try this as my usual polish choices are bland, plus the neon hues seem to make you appear tanner, without actually roasting in the sun.

4. Floral Designs

I have to say, this is probably my favorite of the trends. It really speaks for summer, plus it looks so pretty. Not too long ago, I went to Sephora and saw some polishes that have flowers instead of glitter pieces in it and I'm now obsessed. But getting one hand painted on your nail is also nice :)

5. Gradient/Ombré Nails

This is another trend I've been seeing a lot lately, and even though it's nothing new, I still want to try it. I've seen so many different variations on Instagram and they all look so pretty. My favorites have been those that have a purple/turquoise combo or classic black and white combo.

While there are sure to be other summer nail trends out there and yet to surface, these are the ones I've come across and actually want to try out. Let me know if you will be trying these trends come summer or share any other trend I might have missed. Also, if you have any suggestions on what you want to see here on the blog, leave that in the comments below as well. I'm always open to ideas.

Weekly Recap/Favorites of the Week

{Source:

Washington Post

}

So this week you are getting a weekly recap post instead of a Friday Favorites one. I meant to do this on Friday, but I got caught up watching shows online with my mom and then it was just too late. So instead you get this sort of recap/Favorites of the Week. Hope you can forgive me. Also I'm graduating from college tomorrow which makes me both excited and nervous. Anyway, enjoy.

1.

This

 article on Christina Yang.

I may have mentioned this before, but I'm a diehard Grey's Anatomy fan. I mean I have the hugest crush on Patrick Dempsey and it's the one show I will actually keep up with regularly. It's also one of the few I will usually watch "live" rather than on the DVR. I have watched every single episode and I'm so sad to see Sandra Oh leaving the show since she's one of the original cast members and because even though her character is not always likable, it still brings heart to the show. The article shares some of the things we may not know about Sandra Oh who really brought Dr. Yang to life.

2. This workout^

This week I posted a lot about fitness and made all post health or fitness related so it's only natural that I want to share my favorite workout of the week. As mentioned in previous posts, I'm currently doing the Bikini Series from

Tone It Up

 and this week they released a new Bikini Arms routine video. Even though the workout gets a little tough(my arms were burning), I loved it. My arms are one area I'm really working on because I wear a lot of tank tops and I want to prevent as much arm flab as possible. The workout is not very long, but it really is effective. I'd definitely recommend it!

3. My Motto for the Week

So back to the Bikini Series, early this week Karena and Katrina from

Tone It Up

 gave the community the "Sunset Challenge" of finding a motto for the week. I ended up choosing this one because I'm a low-key perfectionist. I say low-key because I act like I'm carefree and don't express my expectations, but inside struggle with getting things done perfectly. I'm trying to let this idea of perfection go though because in the end, it just holds me back. I will sometimes end up passing up things because I don't think I will be able to perfect them. But what matters in the end is that I try something and that I get it done the best I can. If it's not perfect, it won't be the end of the world. Instead I will end up feeling accomplished and that I took a risk and tried my best. I will be ok.

4. Super Cat!

If you haven't seen this video shame on you. Just kidding, but honestly this video is amazing. It's crazy how protective animals can be of their owners/family. But usually you expect dogs to be the only domestic animal that will be guarding their loved ones. This cat however proves that cats are pretty awesome at guarding too. The dog came out of nowhere and without provocation but was no match for this super cat who scared the dog off and saved the little boy from further injury.

5. This Vine Video

Last but not least, this vine video made my week. I sometimes go on a vine binge where I get really obsessed with the app. This was one of the weeks when I was actually keeping up with my feed on Vine. And this became my favorite Vine of the week because what's cuter than a Corgi wiggling it's butt?! I just about died of the cuteness. Now to teach Charlie how to do this LOL.

Well hope you enjoyed my favorites this week. I'm off to bed so I can wake up and get to my graduation ceremony on time. Let me know what your favorites were this week in the comments.

Astrid

Friday Favorites: Garden Inspo

{Source: Pinterest}
This week's Friday Favorites is mostly focusing on my latest Pinterest search obsession: gardens. If you follow me on Pinterest, you may have picked up on this since I've been pinning different garden related stuff on there. The reason for this is because my mom recently decided(thank god) to finally fix up our backyard after 9 years or so of leaving it on the back burner while she focused on other areas of our home that needed TLC. This is also thanks to Charlie, who seems to love spending time outside, so why not make it nice for him(and us). So here are some of my top garden related pins.

{Source: Pinterest}
I love this planter wall. I think it's a great way to close off a porch while still letting light in and not closing it in completely. And it's much prettier than your typical privacy wall. Love how the plants hang and that it all looks so lush. It also seems much easier to build than a wall or fence.

Within my garden obsessed pins, I have an even more specific obsession with pins that feature wooden pallets being repurposed into something much nicer. For example, this pin featured a pallet being turned into a drop down table that can be used to store glasses. It is by far one of my favorite DIY pallet projects and it seems so easy to do. You bet I will be turning into a weekend project soon.

Here is another Pallet transformation I liked. It's such a creative way to store your garden tools :)

While looking for pallet DIYs and gardening tips, I also came across some creative outdoor seating. The one above is one I really liked since it's colorful and so easy to do. I mean cinder blocks and wood doesn't seem like rocket science now does it? Plus benches just look so nice outdoors.

{Source: The Style Files}
I also really love this pin because to me, it had it all. The seating is simple yet prefect, the light source makes it feel magical, and I love that it again seems easy to recreate. I don't know but this just seems like perfection to me and also so ethereal and calm, which is the point of a backyard, am I right?!

{Source: HGTV Gardens}
Yet another garden obsession lately has been wooden planters. I love the rustic look of it and personally prefer it to some of the cement and brick planters I've seen. I think they would look great in my backyard and again, they seem easy to build and quite affordable to DIY them.

{Source: Pinterest}
Last, but not least, I've also been looking into urban garden walls and succulents. Even though these urban gardens are usually geared more towards those who live in an apartment and don't have a true backyard like I do, I really love how they look. And succulents are so much easier to take care of and actually look really nice, in my opinion, so why not add them to my garden plans!

Although this is just the tip of the iceberg with my garden inspo, I hope you enjoyed these favorites of mine. If you want to see more of my garden inspo pins, go follow me on Pinterest

Friday Favorites: Snack, Gone Girl, Baby Pins & Shopping

friday favorites, life, lifestyle, snack, gone girl, baby pins, shopping, film, movies, her campus, pinterest, baby shower

So this week has been a bit stressful both for things in and out of my control. Thankfully however, I still had bright spots this week. Here are my Friday Favorites, enjoy :)

1. Dark Chocolate Goji
I got this deliciousness from my motivation partner from the Tone It Up community. Angela must have some sort of sixth sense cuz I've been wanting to try these for a while, but once I'm at Whole Foods, I usually forget to get them or only go to get the essentials. They are so addicting though, even Dirtsa couldn't stop eating them. They were also perfect because it gave me just the right amount of chocolate that I was craving! They are seriously sooooo good.

2. Gone Girl Trailer
I think I might have blogged about this, but in case I didn't, know that I'm a huge Gone Girl fan. So it's no surprise that I was jumping for joy when I saw that they finally released a trailer for the movie this week. I read the book while I was in New York after hearing it was being made into a movie and also due to the fact that friends kept recommending it to me since I like books that are dark and twisty. Now I really wish October would be here already so I can go watch it.Will you be watching it?

3. Baby Shower Pinning
So I have a lot of beloved people in my life having babies right now. I think I may have said this before, but it feels like everyone around me is pregnant right now! Anyway, my aunt asked us(Dirtsa and me) for some ideas to help plan my cousin's baby shower. Of course I turned to Pinterest and made a board specifically for the big event. I'm so excited since this is her first child. Also have you seen all the cute ideas they have for baby showers nowadays? I can't even.

{Source: Her Campus
Yes, another Her Campus article and it couldn't be more perfect this time. I just went to Forever 21 on Sunday and I had almost all of these thoughts. It really is overwhelmingly huge and I'm often confused as to what's a dress or a shirt LOL. But honestly it's the college girl's store since it's mostly all affordable and they have the cutest things. Too bad I'm still too broke for it right now. Oh well, soon enough when my other priorities are taken care of I can go HAM and think all of these things.

If you want to join the Her Campus Blogger Network, you can do so by clicking here.

Well there you go. Another Friday Favorites in the books. Let me know yours in the comments below. And check out those baby shower ideas. Also send me any you come across.

Astrid
